Vanadinite

Pb3(VO4)Cl

This collection of crystals is described as vanadinite with mottranite. The vanadinite has the composition Pb3(VO4)Cl , with the unusual contents of lead and vanadium. Its source is the Touissit Mine in Touisset, Morocco. It is on display in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The sample measures about 70 cm across.

This vanadinite sample is about 9x7 cm and is from Mibladen, Morroco.

In this section of the large vanadinite array above, the individual crystals hexagonal symmetry.

The vanadinite sample at left is about 13x18 cm and is from Old Yuma mine, Pima County, Arizona.

This vanadinite sample is about 12x19 cm and if from Mibladen, Morroco.

Ca5(VO4)3Cl

This vanadinite sample is about 11x12 cm and is from Ahumada mine, Los Lamentos, Chihuahua, Mexico. It is referred to as arsenian vanadinite. It has calcium in the place of lead in the usual vanadinite.
