Iron

Fe

This sample of iron is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Elemental iron is rarely found on the earth since it oxidizes so readily to form hematite and other minerals. The sample at left is about 8 cm across and is from Ovifak, Disko Island, Greenland.

It has been found in some igneous rocks in Russia.
