| Fourier TransformsA very common scenario in the analysis of experimental data is the taking of data as a function of time and the need to analyze that data as a function of frequency. The transformation from a "signal vs time" graph to a "signal vs frequency" graph can be done by the mathematical process known as a Fourier transform. While there are other kinds of Fourier transforms, the transform from a time to a frequency function serves as an important example.
